The road system
serves a "rural" environment. Secondary roads are paved (Highway 200,
Heron Road, Railroad Avenue). The remaining roads are graveled and some narrow.
The
Heron Bridge is almost 90 years old, weight restricted and only one lane.
There is limited visibility from both approaches. It is classified by
the Montana Department of Transportation as needing replacement.
According to a bridge study prepared for the county in October 2006 the
engineering firm stated "it would not be safe to continue with no long
term management plan to address the deficiencies of the bridge". To date
no improvements have been made to the Heron Bridge.
