Heron can be reached from Highway 200, via Heron Road and across the Heron Bridge. This route is the safest for automobiles and trucks which meet the restrictions. Highway 200 from either direction is in fair condition with areas of slippage. Winter weather brings snow and ice cover in spots and speeds must be reduced. The fifty-four year old Heron Bridge is classified by the state as high priority for replacement with surface and stringers needing repairs.

Alternate Route East
From the east one has
to cross the Noxon bridge off Highway 200. This entrance is 12 miles
east of Heron. After crossing this bridge follow the road to the right
through Noxon and onto the Quinn's Cut Road (Queen's). This road is 1/2 paved and
1/2 gravel. It is very tricky in "mud season" and winter when much of
it is ice covered.

Alternate Route West
From the west you can enter Heron via the Clark Fork Road. Cross the bridge from second Street in Clark Fork and follow the well paved road through Idaho and South of the Clark Fork River. Upon crossing into Montana it is apparent the road has many potholes, gravel areas and generally poor maintenance due to lack of county funds for repair. This road is extremely rough on cars and requires lower than speed limit travel.
