The Community of Heron

Heron is an unincorporated town which lies in on the banks of the Clark Fork River. The town,located just off Highway 200, is about 4 miles from the Montana/Idaho border. The primary access road to Heron is a single-lane bridge over the Clark Fork River. The main street consists of a library, community center, church, general store, fire department and post office. The remaining town area is made up of residential homes, farms,  and ranches. Heron possesses positive qualities which are characteristic of many small, rural communities within the Treasure State.

The 2000 census shows the population the  Heron town to be around 149 people, with many people living in outlying areas. The immediate town of Heron is approximately 3 square miles.
