The
Heron Citizens for Responsible Development (HCRD), an unincorporated
association, was formed in 2006 in response to a proposed large gated
subdivision planning 80 lots on 147 acres in Heron.
On March 14, 2006
about 150 Heronites gathered at the Heron Community Center for a public
hearing to provide comments on this proposed major subdivision
application.
Residents expressed a wide range of concerns
about the proposed subdivision impacts:
the density and
incompatibility with the surrounding rural community and environment
the application's deficiencies in meeting
legal requirements for the environmental assessment, water quality and
availability, septic proposals and storm water drainage
the inability of local Emergency Services to handle a
subdivision this large
the effects on air quality
the inability
on the part of the county to adequately repair and maintain roads
the substandard condition of the Heron Bridge
The red outline denotes the proposed subdivision. The yellow outline denotes the main town area of Heron.
It was clear from the March hearings, that the residents of Heron are not adverse to development but want responsible development that will benefit the larger community as opposed to the financial success of a few. As a result, a core group of these petitioners joined to watch the subdivision proposal and approval process, and became Heron Citizens for Responsible Development. Our goal is to review subdivision proposals for the Heron area, assure the proposals meet legal requirements and bring useful, factual respectful information to the public about all proposed developments in the Heron area.
Our group encourages the people of Heron to participate in all development processes and, thus, ensure responsible development for our community.
